Exhibition:
Epoch @ AIxDesign's Slow AI Festival

Alongside the development of the book ‘Epoch’ I used the research to inspire a knitted piece using the outcomes created by my DIY AI. The line of enquiry into the project was to use knitting as a medium to investigate AI and machine learning. The entry point allowed me to bring the project full circle as the outcomes of the model are knitting patterns.

Well known motifs of initials knitted onto jumpers and scarves are visible in the piece but the absurdity of scale encourages engagement with the source material. The patterns used in the pieces are created through machine learning but can I refer to it as an AI generated scarf? This question was asked at the AIxDesign’s Slow AI festival where I had the opportunity for audience engagement with the work. I was proud to exhibit the only textile piece and widen the conversation of how fibre arts can fit themselves into spaces for emerging technologies.
