I embarked on this journey with the intent of creating computer generated textiles by combining digital
and physical tools however throughout my research I encountered too many points of intervention that
required human decisions that I added the asterisk.
These pieces are woven replicas of images I generated with code inspired by the work of Anni Albers,
they visually differ as I developed my weaving skills however I've included both to highlight how
different outcomes can come from the same start point.
The code was created on p5.js using the typical grid-like but random motifs of Albers. This outcome was
then translated onto a self made loom before being hand woven into a large tapestry.
The second piece has been displayed at 198 Gallery in Brixton and Cromwell Place in South Kensington. It
is available for display and sale.
For the next iteration of the project, I used my research into weaving to train a pre-modelled GAN. The
variation in outcomes inspired scarf designs from the AI generation
The first image demonstrates a gradient of the outputs and the second exhibits this outcome once it's
been processed by the knitting software to bring the 'AI generated scarf' back to the physical world.
This work is featured in a Bloomsbury publication due to be released in late 2026.
