Hi :)

I'm Sophie Nadel, a designer, developer and creative technologist from London and currently based between there and Eindhoven.

My practice combines creative technology, textiles and design research. Through workshops, exhibitions, publications and visual art, I use textile and digital techniques to make technology more tactile and accessible. I am interested in slowing technology down, revealing its processes and encouraging audiences to engage with it through making. The motivation to use textile practises to explore themes of encryption, data and AI is based in a feminist and educational framework to highlight methods historically associated with women's work.

Workshops are integral to my design practice as they allow me to enact a core principle of increasing tech accessibility through fun and casual learning. The workshops are designed with an audience of teenage girls in mind as this is where I find the STEM gap truly seems to widen across genders. I have run many events for adults in a range of computational arts events including for Peckham Digital Festival and Baltan Laboratories.

Alongside my workshops, my visual art has been exhibited at venues including 198 Gallery and Cromwell Place, written about in publications such as Cursor Mag and Needlebound, and is featured in a forthcoming Bloomsbury publication. I also design websites for a range of clients for both portfolio and e-commerce.
