Workshop:
Encrypted Embroidery

Do you have an address important to you? A password or secret phrase? Translate it into a hidden code and embroider it on your belongings to keep it with you, but out of reach of prying eyes that aim to hold all your data.

Encrypted Embroidery is a design system supported by the Data Reclamation Handbook and available to try out here.

In an increasingly all-encompassing technology environment, the practice of encrypting information in embroidery encourages users to store their information offline. Not only does embroidery allow for slow, meditative creative practice, it recentres a craft historically dismissed as 'women's work'.
